  • Choose how many rounds to play (1–10).
  • Choose the speed: Slow-Poke (30s), Meh-Poke (20s), or Fast-Poke (15s).
  • Decide whether to play against a Person or a Bot.
  • Pick your poker (Inky or La La).

Starting the Game

  • Tap the screen to roll the two 12-sided dice.
  • As soon as you see the dice letters, poke the board to claim your all-important 1st letter.
  • Continue poking letters to form a high-scoring word until time runs out.
  • You may choose not to form a word and instead poach-poke letters to block your opponent’s word.

“Poke in the i” is a word game where players race against time to form high-scoring words. Each round features two dice that offer potential first letters, and the rest of the letters can be changed anytime before time runs out. Strategic “poach-poking” can block your opponent’s progress, making for a fun and competitive experience.

  • Number of Rounds: Choose from 1 to 10 rounds.
  • Speed of the Game: Slow-Poke (30s), Meh-Poke (20s), or Fast-Poke (15s).
  • Opponent Type: Person or Bot.
  • Poker Selection: Inky or La La.
  • Two 12-sided dice each contain letters (excluding T and U).
  • T and U are still on the board, so words can include them—just not as a first letter.
  • The dice letters come in three colors: Red, Green, and Blue. Each color affects scoring differently.

Color Bonuses

  • Red Letter (1st letter): Triple word score (3×).
  • Green Letter (1st letter): Double word score (2×).
  • Blue Letter (1st letter): No bonus.

Distribution of Letters

  • On the Dice: 8 Red letters, 12 Green letters, 4 Blue letters (total 24 letters).
  • On the Board: 8 single Red letters, 28 Green letters (each duplicated), 12 Blue letters (each tripled).
    • Maximum of 9 letters per word.
    • Scoring Table:
      • 1-letter word = 0 pts
      • 2-letter word = 5 pts
      • 3-letter word = 10 pts
      • 4-letter word = 15 pts
      • 5-letter word = 20 pts
      • 6-letter word = 30 pts
      • 7-letter word = 50 pts
      • 8-letter word = 70 pts
    • 9-letter word = 100 pts
  • Two players can play simultaneously on one device.
  • The player on the right must only use their right hand.
  • The player on the left must only use their left hand.
  • Failing to do so can prevent either player from poking letters properly.

Words not allowed:

  • Proper nouns
  • Abbreviations
  • Hyphenated words
  • Words with apostrophes
  • Otherwise, poke away!
  • X is a Red letter, granting a 3× word score if used as the first letter.
  • Fewer words begin with X than any other letter.
  • Examples of valid X words: XI, XIS, XYST, XENIA, XYLOSE, XERIC, XENON, XEBECS, XANTHIC, XYLOPHONE (and many more).
  • Limited letters create a challenge for forming words.
  • If a needed letter isn’t available, players must pivot to a different word quickly.
  • Friendly banter is part of the fun. Just keep it respectful and playful.
  • Poach-poking is when you poke letters you believe your opponent needs, blocking their potential high-scoring word.
  • You must remember to un-poke those letters before time runs out or face penalties for unused letters.
  • Example: If your opponent has a Red letter, you can sabotage their word by taking letters they need to finish it.
  • Un-poking Letters: If you want to change your word or avoid poach-poking fines, simply poke the letter again to remove it.
  • Time’s Up: When the timer ends, all poked letters become final. Any letters left unused will negatively impact your score, and misspelled words will not be awarded any points.
